What is a Prayer Journey?

 

The Prayer Journey is a multi-sensory, experiential, journey of prayer & reflection. 

 

On this journey, the participant will be guided by narration set to music on an individual CD player.  The participant will be encouraged to travel to pre-set stations and engage in hands on symbolic, multi-sensory, tactile actions or rituals to enhance the impact of the journey.

 

The Prayer Journey is designed for a group of individuals to personally connect with God while moving along the journey at the same time as others.

Why Host A Prayer Journey?

 

There are a number of reasons why the Prayer Journey is an effective spiritual growth tool:

 

1)  It provides a concentrated time and space for the participant to slow down and focus on their relationship with God.

 

In this crazy, fast-paced society it is difficult to carve out time to slow down and purposefully meditate and contemplate the deep issues in our relationship with God.  The Prayer Journey is a great way to allow participants to have specific, intentional and significant length of time to meditate, contemplate, pray and commune with God.

 

The stations enable participants to let go of busyness, center on God and reflect on their relationships with others, themselves and all of creation as they take their encounter with God back into the world.  

2) It is experiential, participatory & interactive.

 

Throughout the Prayer Journey, many of the senses are engaged.  They listen to music and narration played on the headsets.  They are encouraged to slow down and notice what they are observing with their eyes.  They use the sense of touch as they pick up and manipulate different objects.  At times, their sense of smell and taste even come into play.  Creativity and deep thinking are encouraged.  Choices and decisions are placed before them.  If taken seriously and engaged fully, the Prayer Journey can be a an environment where God can bring healing, transformation, encouragement and life changing experiences.

3) It is based on the Word of God – The Bible.

 

All the of the elements, experiences and stories are based on the truth revealed in the Bible.  Many times new parables/stories are written to explain a biblical truth in a new and fresh way – just like Jesus did when He taught His disciples.

 

 

4) It is memorable

 

Not only are the experiences in the Prayer Journey memorable because they are interactive, but also during each prayer journey the participant receives a physical item (i.e. a stone, gem, etc.) to be kept as a reminder of a choice made or truth discovered on the journey.

5)  It provides an environment where one can encounter God.

 

When participants quiet themselves down and invite God to communicate with them, amazing things happen.
